In this document from November 20, 1837, Sarah Benjamin (formerly Sarah Osborn) testifies in the Court of Common Pleas in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, as part of her application for a widow’s pension. Benjamin describes her experience traveling with the Continental Army alongside her husband Aaron Osborn. She accompanied the army from New York through Philadelphia to Yorktown, where she witnessed the Battle of Yorktown and subsequent British surrender. Like many women who joined the Continental Army’s camps, Benjamin helped wash clothes and cook for the soldiers.
