Aerial Photo of the University of Virginia Medical Center

This 1945 aerial photo of University of Virginia hospital shows some of the surrounding community of Gospel Hill, which had a long history as a Black community dating to emancipation. Gospel Hill continued to be majority Black until the 1970s. The university medical center continuously encroached upon the surrounding neighborhood until Gospel Hill was completely built over.
