Cover of Freedomways
The autumn 1963 cover of Freedomways, a quarterly publication of the Negro Freedom Movement, pictures civil rights protestors gathered between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963. Martin Luther King Jr., calling for racial equality, delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech to the assembled crowd of about 250,000 people.
