Recruiting Workers for the Hog Island Shipyard

A 1918 storefront in New York City advertises for people to work at the Hog Island shipbuilding complex in Philadelphia. Recruiters for the shipyard traveled to Virginia and other places in search of laborers who were in short supply because of World War I. The wage of $3.85 for a ten-hour day was much higher than what farm hands generally made.
