Willis Hodges Cromwell

Willis Hodges Cromwell sits for a portrait by an unknown photographer in the second half of the nineteenth century. Cromwell was born into slavery; but after his wife, Elizabeth Carney Cromwell, was apparently set free by her master, she purchased her husband and children in 1850 and set them free the following year.
