John Brown
This engraving of John Brown, a formerly enslaved man who escaped to freedom, serves as the frontispiece of his autobiography, Slave Life in Georgia: A Narrative of the Life, Sufferings, and Escape of John Brown, a Fugitive Slave, Now in England (1855). The engraved image by J. Johnston was based on a glass-plate photograph by J. Dudman.
