Republican Ticket (1869)
This broadside lists the slate of candidates nominated by the Republican Party of Virginia for the general election on July 6, 1869. Among the nominees were H. H. Wells, the incumbent governor running for reelection; J. D. Harris, an African American physician running for lieutenant governor; and Thomas R. Bowden, the incumbent attorney general running for reelection. All of the candidates listed on the broadside were defeated in the election with the exception of James H. Platt Jr., who won election to the U.S. House of Representatives from the Second Congressional District. The Conservative Party swept all the statewide offices and achieved majorities in both houses of the General Assembly.
