Grand Barbecue of the Walker Colored Voters!! of Richmond and Henrico.

Members of the Walker Colored Voters, an African American political club in Richmond and Henrico County, advertise a barbecue being held on July 2, 1869, for "our Colored Political friends" on Vauxhall Island in the James River. The event, scheduled to take place four days before the upcoming election, promised both black and white speakers. The broadside cited the Walker club's desire for a "sincere, lasting peace between the White and the Colored race" and appealed to "every colored voter in favor of the equal political and civil rights of the colored and white man."
