This article from the September 23, 1939, issue of the Chicago Defender reports on a hearing in the case of five Black men who were arrested for disorderly conduct after conducting a sit-in to protest segregation at the Alexandria Library. The protest was one of the first sit-ins for civil rights in the United States.
