This November 1825 issue of the African Repository and Colonial Journal by the American Colonization Society includes the Marquis de Lafayette’s views on the future of slavery in the Americas. Lafayette served as a vice president of the American Colonization Society and attended its annual meeting during his visit to Washington, D.C., in February 1825. The organization advocated for gradual emancipation of enslaved people and the repatriation of free people of color to Africa.
