Re-Adjuster Ticket

A Readjuster Party handbill for the 1880 presidential election lists the candidates the party supports: Democrats Winfield Scott Hancock for president and William H. English for vice president. Virginia's district electors and electors at large (future governor William E. Cameron and future U.S. senator Harrison H. Riddleberger) are also listed. During the 1880 election Virginia had two distinct Democratic tickets—one backed by the Funders who favored paying the state's debt, and the other backed by the Readjuster Party who advocated adjusting the debt rather than paying it in full. Hancock and English won in the general election, and the Reajuster Democratic ticket carried nine districts.
