The Partisan Leader

This is the book jacket for the 1933 edition of Beverley Tucker's The Partisan Leader, published in New York by Alfred A. Knopf. (The book was first published in 1836 in Washington, D.C., under the title The Partisan Leader; A Tale of the Future, with the author using a pseudonym.) According to the jacket text on this New York edition, the nearly hundred-year-old "'Cavalier' love-story" remained of interest as "it predicted many of the incidents of the Civil War, and in 1862 no less important a man than [the abolitionist] Charles Sumner of Massachusetts declared that it was positive proof of thirty years of Southern perfidy."
