Anatomical Theatre Bricks
These bricks were used in the construction of the Anatomical Theatre on the grounds of the University of Virginia. The building, designed by Thomas Jefferson and built in 1825–1826 by enslaved laborers, was used for anatomy instruction and the storage of cadavers. The structure was renovated in subsequent decades and eventually razed in 1939, the only Jefferson-designed building at the university to suffer that fate.
