An engraved frontispiece for the Catalogue of the Officers and Students of Howard University, District of Columbia. 1868–'69 (1869) depicts Old Main Building at Howard University. Chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1867, Howard had eleven first-year students in 1868–1869, six men and five women. The building shown here was replaced in the 1930s with the current Founder's Library.
