You Don’t Have to Ride Jim Crow!
Robin Washington's 1995 documentary You Don't Have to Ride Jim Crow! documents the impact of Irene Morgan's refusal to yield her seat on a bus from Virginia to Maryland in July 1944. In this excerpt, Washington speaks with Morgan years later to hear the story of the day itself and also describes the fallout from both Morgan's initial decision and from the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that ruled against state-mandated segregation on interstate transportation.
