William “Billy” Flora’s Will

The last will and testament of William “Billy” Flora, a free Black Revolutionary War veteran who eventually settled in Portsmouth, is dated November 5, 1818. At the time of his death Flora had property in Portsmouth that he intended to pass on to his grandson, calling for the rent from the property to be used to fund his grandchild’s education. Flora named his friend William Wilson to be the executor of his will, but according to this record Wilson refused the obligation.
