Flooded Streets in Nelson County After Hurricane Camille

In the aftermath of the remnants of Hurricane Camille that deluged Nelson County in August 1969, a young and woman (at left) lead a pair of horses through a flooded street. Though the storm made landfall in Mississippi and was not expected to endanger Virginia, the storm veered east unexpectedly and dumped at least twenty-seven inches of rainfall overnight in the rural county, taking 124 lives.
