Voting Rights Demonstrators at the 1963 March on Washington
This photograph shows a mixed-race group of protesters attending the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Two protesters are holding signs that read, “We demand voting rights now!” The march, which was attended by a quarter of a million people, was the largest scale civil rights protest yet held in the United States. Martin Luther King, Jr., the featured speaker, gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the event.
