Map & Profile of the Virginia and Tennessee Rail Road

This 1856 lithographed map shows the route of the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad between Lynchburg, Virginia, and Bristol, Tennessee. The map includes detailed geographical features as well as sites of industrial importance such as saltworks, lead mines, coal fields, and iron works. The illustration at the top shows a fully loaded train steaming along the rail lines; on the left of the image is the state seal of Virginia and on the opposite side is the state seal of Tennessee.
