Title Page for Seventh Grade Textbook

The title page for the state-sanctioned seventh grade textbook titled Virginia: History, Government, Geography (1957) features a Confederate battle flag behind the Virginia state flag. This volume was produced with the intention of presenting Virginia history with a Lost-Cause gloss that glorified the Confederate rebellion and minimized the horrors of slavery and the failed attempt to racially integrate southern society during Reconstruction.
