This Day (A Boy Named Anne Edition)

Happy birthday to William Anne Keppel, who was born on this day in 1702. Named for his godmother Queen Anne, he joined the world at Whitehall Palace, once the residence of Queen Elizabeth but now not quite as fancy. In fact, it burnt in 1698, so that one observer reported “nothing but walls and ruins left.” Little Anne made do, however, growing up to become the second earl of Albemarle and even the governor of Virginia!
