Stephen Cushman Discusses the Battle of the Wilderness
In a radio interview that was broadcast in 1999, University of Virginia professor Stephen Cushman describes the Battle of the Wilderness—in particular, Ulysses S. Grant's chain-smoking, Robert E. Lee's adrenaline, the killer fires, and the awe-inspiring, nerve-destroying sound that rushed over the rugged Virginia countryside those spring days in 1864. Cushman, the author of Bloody Promenade: Reflections on a Civil War Battle (1999), appeared on With Good Reason, which is produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and hosted by Sarah McConnell.
