Sketch of Hampton

This map, which was kept in the papers of British general Henry Clinton, shows Hampton and its surrounding waterways as it looked in 1781, along with landmarks and buildings of interest. The map includes a sketch of certain private homes located near the Poquoson River. The mapmaker, identified only as M.W.P., included military points of interest in its key, including a naval shipyard and three different guard houses.
