Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike

This 1957 aerial photograph shows the in-progress construction of the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike (I-95) in Richmond. The turnpike split the historically Black community of Jackson Ward in half, making it more difficult for urban, mostly Black residents to get around the city, while benefiting the mostly white residents of the suburbs.
