Ravensworth

William Fitzhugh of Chatham built Ravensworth, a frame Palladian-style mansion, around 1796 on a 12,000 acre estate in Fairfax County. He moved there shortly after its construction with his wife and three young children. After Fitzhugh’s death (he was buried in the family cemetery on the property) the house passed down through members of the Fitzhugh family for over a century. On August 1, 1926, a fire of undetermined cause destroyed the structure.
