Rappahannock Forge Musket Buttplate

A close-up view of the buttplate of a musket made at Rappahannock Forge, the armory at James Hunter's large-scale iron works in Stafford County. It is engraved with "No. 36." A buttplate is a flattened piece of metal attached to the butt of a musket to protect the wood.
