Virginia Piedmont Guitarists Tour: Sample Performances by Featured Artists (1991–1992)
This video shows sample performances of the five headlining artists of the 1992–1993 Piedmont Guitarists Tour organized by the Virginia Folklife Program. The tour featured masters of the Piedmont guitar style at twelve venues across the state. Each artist performed after a video introduction to who they were and their particular version of the Piedmont guitar style.
The artists appear in the following order: Blues artist John Cephas of Washington, D.C., who learned the Piedmont guitar style from his extended family in Caroline County; Turner Foddrell and Lynn Foddrell of Patrick County, whose style of Blues was influenced by banjo dance music from the Blue Ridge Mountains; famed bluesman John Jackson of Rappahannock County, who performed country and gospel music as well as Blues; and a performance of gospel and spiritual music by Daniel Womack of Pittsylvania County, who was partially blind.
