Pentagon Construction, Demolition of Surrounding Area

This photograph, taken by Harold Lang around 1941 in his series documenting the construction of the Pentagon, shows two Black workers demolishing some pavement in front of a large pile of rubble. This shows either the demolition of Washington-Hoover Airport or the demolition of Queen City, a Black community in East Arlington that was destroyed to make way for the Pentagon’s network of roads.
