Map of Nottoway County
This 1864 map of Nottoway County provides a detailed representation of the natural and man-made features of the region. The map, produced by the engineering department of the Confederate Army, shows the locations of all the roads in the county, from the largest to the smallest bridle paths; the route of the South Side Railroad that ran through the county; bridges, many of them designated either "good" or "bad"; local stores, mills, and other businesses; churches, including the "African Church" sited near the court house in the center of the county; and the land owned by particular families.
