Mary White Morris

Charles Willson Peale painted this portrait of Mary White Morris around 1782. Morris, a wealthy white member of Philadelphia society, is depicted in a fine silk dress and large, fashionable plumed hat. Her husband, Robert Morris, helped to fund the Continental Army during the American Revolution, and the couple became good friends with George and Martha Washington during the war.
