Maggie Lena Walker Memorial
A ten-foot-tall bronze statue of Richmond civic leader Maggie Lena Walker, designed by sculptor Toby Mendez, stands prominently in the Maggie Lena Walker Plaza in Richmond’s Jackson Ward. The construction of the plaza as a gateway to the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site was a first step in the City of Richmond's efforts to attract tourism to Jackson Ward, and, eventually, reconnect the bisected community.
