Location of Albemarle Barracks

This highlighted section of a map from Edward C. Mead’s Historic Homes of the South-West Mountains, Virginia (1899), shows the general location of the Albemarle Barracks, here labeled “British Barracks.” Demolished by the time of Mead’s publication, the barracks, mostly consisting of hastily constructed log huts, were located about five miles northwest of Charlottesville.
