Little Union Baptist Church

This photograph shows Little Union Baptist Church of Prince William County as it looked in 2008. Mary Bates and John Thomas, two formerly enslaved residents of the county, deeded the land for the construction of the church in 1901, intending for it to serve the needs of the mostly agrarian Black community of Batestown. The church was established in 1903. In 1977, to fit the needs of a growing congregation, a new church building was constructed a short distance from the original structure, and in 1996 Little Union was expanded once again. It is still in operation.
