Leading Virginia Ballad Collectors

These photographs of four of the leading ballad collectors who traveled the state for the Virginia Folklore Society finding and transcribing old English ballads appear in the book Traditional Ballads of Virginia (1939), edited by Arthur Kyle Davis Jr. The four potrait photographs show Martha M. Davis of Harrisonburg, Juliet Fauntleroy of Altavista, James M. Grainger of Farmville, and Alfreda M. Peel of Salem.
