Kepone Environmental and Medical Disaster
This excerpt is from The Story of OSHA, a film produced in 1980 by the federal government to document workplace hazards investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This clip focuses on OSHA's investigation of the Allied Chemical Corporation in Hopewell, which was producing Kepone, a toxic insecticide, and how company employees were affected by exposure to that synthetic compound. In 1981 the newly appointed head of OSHA, Thorne Auchter, tried to recall all copies of this film and threatened to punish anyone who refused to return his or her copy.
