John Haines

John Meade Haines is a Virginia-born poet best known for his literary works about Alaska. Often compared, perhaps too easily, to "outdoor" writers Robert Frost and Henry David Thoreau, he has published fourteen collections of poetry and five collections of essays. In addition, he has won numerous writing awards and honors, including two Guggenheim Fellowships and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
