Hopewell Water Renewal

Sunlight reflects on the Chesapeake Bay near Hopewell Water Renewal, formerly the Hopewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, in this aerial photograph. A combination of city, state, and industry partners opened the facility in 1977, in the aftermath of the Kepone environmental disaster, to treat both residential and industrial waste. In 2016 the facility was upgraded to treat additional nitrogen waste from industry. Hopewell Water Renewal treats about twenty-seven million gallons of wastewater every day.
