Harrison Announces Prince Edward Free School Association

This news clip from Roanoke’s news station WSLS aired on Aug. 14, 1963. In it, Governor Albertis Harrison announces that a free, privately financed school would open in Prince Edward County that fall. This decision, made after years of protest following the 1959 closing of public schools in Prince Edward County, finally created an integrated school system in that county.
