Fort Stanwix Boundary Line Map 1768

An engraved map delineates the boundary line negotiated by Sir William Johnson, the British superintendent of Indian affairs for the northern district, and the Six Nation Iroquois confederacy, or Haudenosaunee, at the treaty of Fort Stanwix. Shawnee and Delaware who hunted in the Ohio Country were not included in the negotiations, setting the stage for future conflict. John E. Gavit of Albany, NY, made this facsimile engraving in the mid-ninteenth century, copied from the original 1768 map drawn by Johnson’s son-in-law, Guy Johnson.
