Fort Ligonier

This modern photograph shows the reconstructed Fort Ligonier, located in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. In 1758, during the Seven Years’ War, British General John Forbes called for the construction of the fort, wanting a refuge and supply depot located halfway between Fort Bedford and Fort Duquesne. On October 12 and 13, 1758, while still under construction, Fort Ligonier survived a French attack. The fort remained in use during conflicts between settlers and Indigenous people until it was decommissioned in 1766. It was reconstructed from 1953 to 1969 in preparation for the bicentennial of the Revolutionary War and still exists as a historical museum.
