Eudora Lyles

This photograph of Eudora Lyles, taken by Carol Siegel, was part of a 1989 photography exhibition at the Alexandria Black History Museum called The Spirit of a Neighborhood. Lyles was an Alexandria activist who, after seeing the harm done to her community from earlier urban renewal projects, founded the Inner City Civic Association in the 1970s to challenge these proposals. Lyles was a member of multiple housing organizations and advocacy groups, including the Economic Opportunity Commission, the Tenants Organizing Project, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
