The Executive Director of the Virginia Industrialization Group has acclaimed Danville as an example of tremendous
growth among Virginia’s cities. Richard C. Holmquist told the Virginia Citizens Planning Association that because of Danville’s progressive thinking a major industrial palnt [plant] has located there in each of the past four years. Holmquist cited Danville for adopting a comprehensive plan six years ago and letting dust gather on the shelf.
He points to the results of the plan including a new zoning law, improved housing code, major street paln [plan], off street parking, and a new sewage treatment plan. Holmquist says that Danville is also indertaking [undertaking] topographical mapping of the city, has developed a comprehensive housing plan, and is building new schools.
According to Holmquist, Danville is representative of what is going on in other cities of Virginia.
