Dr. William Cabell

This photographic print, part of the collection of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, is of a portrait of physician and surveyor William Cabell (1700-1774). Robert Hervey Cabell, one of William’s descendants, identified the subject as the “Founder of the Family in Virginia.” It appears to have been painted when Cabell was a child, perhaps in England prior to his emigration to Virginia in the early 1720s.
