Dorchester Heights Monument

In 1898 the General Court of Massachusetts commissioned a monument to commemorate George Washington’s successful overnight fortification of Dorchester Heights with cannon. The stepped tower, constructed from white marble in a Georgian revival style, was designed by the architectural firm Peabody and Stearns and was erected in 1902.
