Dick Obenshain 1978 Campaign Ad

Richard D. Obenshain used this advertisement for his 1978 election for the United States Senate. Obenshain had been a critical figure in Virginia’s Republican party throughout the 1960s and is credited with laying the groundwork for the successes of his party in the 1970s and 1980s. He narrowly won the Republican candidacy for the Senate in 1978 but died on Aug. 2, 1978 in a plane crash, before the election took place.
