Detail from L’Enfant’s Panoramic View of West Point
A woman shares soup with three Continental Army soldiers (and a dog) at a military encampment in West Point, New York, while two young children play behind her. This is a detail from a much larger panoramic watercolor image of the encampment painted by French-born architect and military engineer Pierre Charles L'Enfant in August of 1782. L'Enfant painted several watercolor scenes of the Continental Army while traveling with it during the American Revolution.
