Cuthbert Bullitt’s Will
This is a copy of the last two pages of the last will and testament of Cuthbert Bullitt, preserved by the chancery court of Monongalia County in 1841 as evidence in the case Cuthbert Bullett’s Heirs vs. James B. Huie, et al. In it, Bullitt leaves most of his land in Virginia and elsewhere to his son Thomas Bullitt, while giving each of his four daughters an enslaved woman or girl. The unmarried daughters inherited “five hundred pounds Each to be paid them in Slaves by equal allotment.”
