Construction of Claude Moore Health Sciences Library

This photograph, taken on December 17, 1974, shows the construction of the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library at the University of Virginia. The construction of the library, along with the expansion of the UVA Medical Center, encroached on the historically Black Charlottesville community of Gospel Hill. By 1984, the community was demolished, replaced by medical center buildings and parking lots.
