Union troops attempt to outflank Robert E. Lee’s army.

The Union Fifth, Eleventh, and Twelfth corps reunite on the south side of the Rappahannock River and march east in an attempt to outflank Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. That night, the troops camp in the Wilderness, a wild and tangled woodland, near an old tavern called Chancellorsville.
