In Valladolid, Spain, King Charles V grants Lucas Vásquez de Ayllón a contract to explore areas previously visited by Pedro de Quejo and Francisco Gordillo. Ayllón tells the court that these areas are at the “height of the same degrees and identical parallels” as the Spanish region of Andalucía.
